These Cornwall documentary newborn photos were the perfect opportunity for me to get to spend more time with one of my favourite families. Sarah and Matt have been clients for years and are no strangers to at-home sessions. However, things have changed a lot since our first session together, courtesy of two unforgettable additions to their family: Daphne, their adorable pup; and their newest crowning achievement, Nora.
When I joined them, the Despaties were freshly settled in as a family of four in their new home, and Matt and Sarah were settling in beautifully to their new roles as parents.
My lasting memory from this session was laughter. Matt and Sarah’s lives are often full of laughter, so the fact that my cheeks hurt by the time I left shouldn’t have been a surprise.
Daphne was eager to pounce on my head any chance she got – and she tried to take many chances, despite Matt and Sarah’s very best efforts, all of which kept me in stitches. I just about lost myself to laughter when I watched Matt scoop her up and carry her down the stairs like a second child because, in her previous life as a condo dog, she didn’t have to learn how to do indoor stairs.
Nora was full of grins and yowls and hunger, which also kept us chuckling. How can someone so small experience such a range of emotions in quick succession? She is perfection in living form and I had to stop myself multiple times from just putting the camera down and gazing at her features.
Seeing Sarah in her new role as Mom was such a sweet experience. She’s managing feeding routines with humour and grace, and it’s impossible for her to look at Nora’s gorgeous little face without breaking into an unstoppable grin. Matt looks at Sarah with such admiration and wonder, a look that also extends to his new daughter. I get the feeling that he’s using his leave from work to really just soak it all in, and that’s a magnificent thing to see in a dad.
