woman embracing bearded man in tree stand during Cornwall Autumn Engagement Session

How many times have I told the story of the couple who show up and feel uncertain about what they’re doing only to then go and completely rock their session? Well, Annie and Shawn might take the cake.

After being guests at Lisa & Serge’s intimate backyard wedding, Annie and Shawn decided that they wanted to talk to me about coverage for their own wedding. I looked forward to the meeting, if for no other reason than to tease Shawn about his late-night hi jinx at Lisa and Serge’s place. :) I knew working with these two would be an exciting experience. Shawn is a teddy bear with lots of energy and enthusiasm (hence the hi jinx); Annie is one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met. Weddings aside, I felt like we could easily have a ball together hanging out over pizza and drinks. We had a great consult – they came with ideas but also lots of flexibility to allow for the best possible opportunities, which is always awesome.

The day of their Cornwall autumn engagement session arrived; we met up in a parking lot and went adventuring. I was SO thankful that the sun cooperated that day and turned a great session into something unforgettable. As we hopped from pocket of light to pocket of light, I saw that Annie has a quiet grace about her. Even if she’s feeling unsure of what she’s doing (to be fair, pretty much everyone starts out feeling unsure), she looks radiant on-camera. Shawn was more than happy to go along with any idea, so getting them to show connection became ridiculously easy and very little instruction was needed on my part. When it comes to getting these two together, they just fit. I could see how Annie would relax into Shawn or how gentle Shawn was with Annie, even if we’d been doubled over laughing a few seconds before.

The sun dropped lower on the horizon and we rushed over to one final location because I knew it afforded horizon views for what was undoubtedly going to be a gorgeous sunset. After a few more frames of them being wonderful with each other, Annie hopped on Shawn’s back so that they could get some playful shots – but even that turned into images of a beautiful connection. When you’ve had this much fun with clients and the sun is putting on a spectacle, it’s time to be silly and do a celebratory leap. *cue lighthearted silhouette* ;)
