When Lisa and Serge first told me that they were planning an intimate backyard Cornwall wedding for 30ish people at their own home, it was all I could do to keep from leaping in the air. Intimate weddings are a completely different experience. The guests are more involved, the energy is more immediate, the pace is so much more relaxed. From a photographer’s standpoint, I have so much more access to my couple, their story and their guests, which allows me to create a very different body of work for my clients.

Lisa and Serge are both such low key people; their approach to their wedding was perfectly suited to their personalities. When I arrived, they were putting the finishing touches on their tent decor while their black lab, Charlie, was wandering around visiting with people. The flowers had been gifted to them by Serge’s dad, Claude, and I immediately fell in love with them – they were honestly some of the most gorgeous floral arrangements I’ve ever photographed. Lisa helped Serge get dressed and then asked her mom and Serge’s mom to help her into her gown. As Lisa’s sister fastened the necklace and let her tears flow, I knew we were in for a great day.

These two had such complete trust in me that I really felt like I was there as a guest as much as a photographer. I was seated with Lisa’s parents and family; I was free to go wherever I wanted, whenever I wanted, and I had total carte blanche to play that day. If ever there’s a wedding gift you can give your photographer, that’s it right there – freedom.

I knew that I wasn’t going to see over-the-top reactions from Lisa and Serge that day. They aren’t centre-of-attention kind of people. They like to have a great time surrounded by the right people, and that’s exactly what they did. The way that they made everyone feel welcome and shifted the spotlight back onto their family and closest friends made complete sense and was so touching to witness.

I’m Ang. I’m a Cornwall, Ontario-based photographer offering wedding and documentary family coverage locally and worldwide. Visual storytelling is what I do best. I’m an avid traveler, my passport is always up-to-date, I have dual citizenship with the UK and I’m ALWAYS ready for an adventure. Laughter is important in my life and in my work. I love working with couples who are emotionally present on their wedding day and whose goal is to spend time laughing (or crying!) with loved ones.
