Annie and Shawn’s St Lawrence cottage wedding helped me start my wedding season with a bang – quite literally (hello, fireworks!).
After they made me absolutely love them during their engagement session last fall, I couldn’t wait to see these two say “I do” this summer. Their wedding day was non-stop laughter and excitement. From banter with the guys and missing dress shoes to the girls’ speedy, record-breaking dress efforts and some hilariously enthusiastic dancing late into the evening, it was clear that they chose exactly the right people to surround them on a superbly sunny Saturday in June as they exchanged their vows on the shore of the St Lawrence River. After finding a beautiful riverfront property right at Willow Bay, Annie and Shawn teamed up with Sage Designs to create some gorgeous florals, including a new arch that I just adore. As the sun set and everyone got ready to get the party got going, I worked with Stacy of DJ Sound so that Annie and Shawn could do their first dance under the stars, and we were all pleasantly surprised when a flock of ducks decided to join them. Evening fireworks from their cottage hosts complemented their own collection of explosives and really lit up the night.
Cottage weddings instantly produce a different vibe that appeals to me every single time. People are laidback, they’re happy to wander and enjoy the scenery, shoes get kicked off and jackets get removed just a little bit earlier. People are happy to pitch in and then dance it out, whether they’re on the dancefloor or on the grass – although, the shots undoubtedly helped with this. ;)
I’m so appreciative of Annie and Shawn for the attitude they took towards the day. Their ability to just let things roll and really soak in the company of the people around them made for some wonderfully sweet moments on a day that they will want to remember for decades.
Big thanks to The Loft for doing a beautiful job on hair and makeup and to Gilles’s team at Prestige Catering for making sure we were fed so well!
I hope that this little recap of some of my favourite moments of their day helps give you a little peek into their joy and all the excitement!
