I CANNOT believe that this summery Glengarry maternity session hasn’t made it onto the blog yet!

Chloe and Dylan came to me because I’d already worked with Chloe’s sister, Vanessa, on her wedding the year before. Chloe is passionate about photography, which got me excited to see what we’d make together. Little did I know, we were about to have one of the best maternity sessions I’d done to date.

When planning sessions, we often spend a lot of time scouting locations to see what’s looking the most interesting in seasonal light, since the type of light the sun gives us to work with changes regularly throughout the year. Normally, I’m not a big fan of open fields because there’s not much variety to them. They’ve never been my jam. But soy? In late-day, late-season light? GIMME.

Chloe and Dylan made this session absurdly easy. Not only do they have a beautiful connection that makes them a delight to photograph, but they are also just so dang easy going. They didn’t even blink when we said, “Okay, we’re just going to bounce from field to field and see what comes of the light we’ve got.” We started in Kristin’s front yard and then made our way through Glengarry’s soy fields in some absolutely gorgeous late-day sunshine. Chloe brought her own gown and I brought a second one, so a couple of costume changes gave us some great variety.

A little note for those shopping for a maternity gown: it’s worth considering whether you want flow in your dress or not. Chloe’s dress had a ton of extra fabric, which gave us something to play with and make gorgeous portraits that really featured the flowing fabric. The red dress belongs to the studio and was perfect for a punch of earthy colour and bohemian feel.

I still get butterflies when I think of the connection and light we had during this session. Here’s a little look at why.
