Shauna & Trevor – Elegant Rural Ontario Backyard Wedding
Trevor and Shauna’s elegant rural Ontario backyard wedding was a demonstration of pure country class. This wedding oozed with fresh flowers from Jade Garden, hand-painted signs, homemade pies and gorgeous dresses, and featured one of the best wedding meals I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating (thank you, La Cuisine Volante!), all with a beautiful country backdrop.
Despite living in Vankleek Hill, these two chose Shauna’s parents’ property in Apple Hill as the perfect setting. There was just enough of a clearing for the tent and outdoor bar before the property merged with the surrounding bush. I suspect that wasn’t a coincidence and plenty of hard work went into that detail! It made for a stunning, intimate setting for both the ceremony and the reception.
When Kristin and I joined the girls, there were plenty of nerves rippling through the house. A champagne toast does wonders to get people laughing and at ease once more. Shauna truly looked radiant in a gown that was the most perfect choice for her. Shauna and Trevor managed to mostly keep it together during their quiet, private first look at the house. Then we all boarded the bus to head for St Raphael’s for portraits that were just perfection for these two.
Our locations meant we got to combine the architecture of a local landmark and the greenery of the surrounding area in the portrait session. What really captured my attention, though, was the look in Trevor’s eye while he was with Shauna. He was the perfect gentleman all day, especially during a few touching moments when Grandma arrived. When he was with Shauna, he couldn’t have looked more proud and honoured to be by her side. He also looked pretty taken by her dress choice. :)
Since the ceremony was at home, Shauna got to walk with her parents out the front door and down the driveway before reaching the aisle that led to her waiting groom. Laurie Ann Harbors was WONDERFUL and led a ceremony that really encouraged natural emotion and reactions. Her love for her work meant that I got to document a group of people look so at ease.
We snuck off for a few portraits at sunset (DO THIS! Please!) that allowed these two a few moments of quiet together in the middle of a wild day.
As the evening wound down, heartwarming speeches celebrated the couple. There was mention of hockey and teaching. There were more than a few tears and embarrassing stories. There were some revelations from Trevor’s brother and moments that showed just how much Trevor means to his family; Shauna’s tribute from from Jenna, Shauna’s cousin and matron-of-honour, featured a few ingenious musical touches. It was clear that family were so important to these two and it made my heart happy to see their family honour them in such genuine (and amusing) ways.
The dancing started, the backyard was full, and we left a party that was in full swing. No doubt it stayed that way for many more hours!
Shauna and Trevor, thank you for being such wonderful people to work with. Watching you both being so at ease with one another and celebrating in such a family-focused way made documenting this day a wonderful experience. I hope you enjoy your sneak peek. There are LOTS more photos on the way!
