Shannon at Home – Cornwall Lifestyle Maternity Session

Nothing like working on a blog post and then learning, that same day, that the baby had arrived safely!

Shannon contacted me about doing a super casual in-home maternity session. Nothing frilly, nothing fancy, just her at home with her bump. I was all over it. I can choose all the gorgeous locations you want (and I do get very excited about it!), but there’s something so much more intimate about using your own space for your maternity photos. Showing Shannon’s maternity glow in the home where she has made her family has so much meaning to me – more than a gorgeous field at sunset, more than a beautiful forest with light filtering through the trees. This is honest, simple and so very personal. We were able to incorporate little details, like the coffee mug that Shannon shares with no one, and the onesies that she loves so much (check out what’s written on one of them ;) ), and we were able to keep things so natural – because what’s more natural than lounging on your own bed with your daughter?

While we worked through the session, Shannon and I chatted about the realities of late-term pregnancy, the nesting urges, the challenges that come with having a toddler in the picture already. Shannon is suuuuuper calm and full of wry humour, which is one of the reasons I enjoy her so much. Ella, by the way, is full of spunk and is a comical kid. I was thrilled that she was willing to leave Grandma and join us for a few frames. My heart was full to bursting when I was working through the images of Shannon and Ella together because of how genuine they are.

I couldn’t be happier with this session and am so thrilled that Shannon was willing to invite me into her home to make these images for her.
