Ottawa Lifestyle Photography
Wow, it has been SO quiet around here… I’ve been working hard on a number of projects with a few different experts and can’t wait to show off some new stuff very soon! In the meantime, I’m so excited to finally share images from this beautiful at-home session.
Working with the Muir-Brunet gang is always a laugh. Robby, Sam and I have collaborated on five sessions now, and they always bring something magical. This time, they decided to change things up and go for a lifestyle newborn session, which really got me excited. A lifestyle session isn’t quite documentary because the locations are chosen specifically for light, but it’s a far cry from a studio session; the resulting images are honest and real, rather than pretty and posed. I visited them in their Orleans home and spent two hours tailing along while they hung out as a family.
My goal was to create images that revealed the bond that these four beautiful people share, and I had so much fun doing it. Watching Robby and Sam be parents is such a heartwarming experience. They adore their children – I mean, it oozes from every pore.
Leo is heading for 2 years old (this summer) and is an adventurer who loves to climb and loves his dog. He is an fantastic little man full of fantastic little ideas. The time that he spent with Sam, sitting on the bed, surrounded by colouring books and crayons while he worked on choosing exactly the right colours was such a touching moment and gave me a tiny glimpse into the ideas swirling through his growing mind.
Sebastian, the whole reason for this session, was a month(ish) old during the session, and he brings out this softness in both Robby and Sam that makes the whole world slow down and seem very quiet – even when there’s a toddler around. Robby breastfeeds both children and is so comfortable doing it, which was awesome (in the very true sense of the word) to watch. It gave me a chance to really observe the bond that forms between a mother and her child during a very intimate, essential, routine task.
I laughed along with Robby and Sam when Leo got out Ninja Turtle costume pieces for himself and Sebastian (whose middle name is, fittingly, Raphael). I loved the asymmetry of Robby holding Sebastian while Sam tipped Leo upside down by the ankles. I bathed in the warmth – literally, since it was about 40 degrees in the room – when Robby shared quiet moments with Sebastian while breastfeeding in the nursery. I smiled at the sweetness of family time on Mom and Dad’s bed (and fondly remembered the days when my sisters, brother and I used to do the same thing).
This is real life for these guys, and it’s all kinds of awesome.
Here are some of their highlights:
I’m Ang – a Cornwall, Ontario-based photographer with a passion for capturing light and photographing natural moments in life as they happen. My goal is to capture memories that you will cherish once your little ones are not so little anymore. I love meeting new families in their natural environment and getting in amongst the bedlam so that I can document the perfectly imperfect realities of daily life.
