Patrick and Tanya’s December wedding was the perfect opportunity for me to team up once again with Charlotte Northrope. As her second shooter, I had the pleasure of sharing laughs with Patrick while I spent time with him as he got ready for his day, before we headed to Hart House where he would join Tanya for the remainder of their celebrations.

This wedding had the most beautiful, diffused light that was so perfectly suited to the gorgeous Hart House location on the UofT campus. The rain that threatened to come at any moment managed to hold off, but this December wedding featured an impressively blustery wind, so we opted to do their first look inside the building to keep everyone warm. Tanya glided down the stairs to meet her groom and they shared several adorable moments together while their family made themselves scarce. Tanya looked gorgeous in her gown, which she designed herself (the cross-shoulder strap at the back was my favourite unexpected detail on what is otherwise a wonderfully classic design).

After an especially sweet moment and tears with her father, we headed outside for a few portraits, and that’s where things got interesting. I thought seriously about making this blog post entirely about their adventures with Tanya’s veil. That veil – impressive in its length – was having an experience entirely all its own on that December Saturday. It swirled, rippled, billowed, and even managed to blow completely away at one point. (Thankfully, it didn’t get stuck to the brick and Patrick was able to return it to her.) I was completely in love with the subtle detail that its movements added to their portraits.

Tanya and Patrick managed to maintain their composure throughout their ceremony and shared an emotional moment in the hallway immediately after they made it through the doors. I helped Charlotte with family portraits; Patrick and Tanya got prepared for dinner; and then it was time for me to leave them to their party. I left smiling, knowing that I’d witnessed something really special, and felt a little more at ease because the veil had made it through and was stored safely away. The adventure was over for both of us, but it was just beginning for the two of them.

Here’s a look into their beautiful wedding:
