Dear Henry
I’ve been photographing you since you were six days old. We’ve gotten to hang out a few times in the years since you were born and there’s one thing that I keep seeing every time we’re together: since the day you came into this world, you’ve brought so much joy to the world around you.
When I arrived for this session, you took my hand and immediately started telling me about your favourite dinosaurs. We hadn’t seen each other in at least two years, but you didn’t care. It was like we were old friends. How could I not adore you?
I got to hang out with you and your mum, as well as Grandma and Granddad this month because your mum wanted me to capture an afternoon of your energy. I laughed as you stole raspberries from the bowl, quietly watched while you got yourself stuck in the tree – twice – and managed to get yourself free – twice – despite not believing that you could. You made me dizzy as you raced through the yard with the dog and played a lively game of tennis. You even got Rich involved by getting him to be the umpire. That’s the sort of person you are: you draw in everyone around you because you’re such a delight to be with.
One day, you’re going to be too big to fit on your mum’s lap and you’re going to be able to look back at these photos with her. I hope that you see how much joy you bring to her life. You’re clever and independent, but you have this wonderful bond with your mum that I hope stays this strong for your entire life.
Here’s a look at our time together:
I’m Ang. I’m based in Ontario, Canada and also take UK bookings once or twice a year. I’m documentary family photographer with a passion for capturing light and photographing natural moments in life as they happen. My goal is to capture memories that you will cherish once your children are too grown up to depend on you for everything and the house seems oddly quiet at night. I love meeting new families in their natural environment – whether that’s a rural farm, a back yard in the city, or a local gymnastics lesson – and getting in amongst the bedlam so that I can document the perfectly imperfect realities of daily life.
