groom smiles at bride while touching her face in front of pine trees during Rockland wedding celebrationOh boy, this was a good one.

Kristin and I started our “official” wedding season with these two for their Plantagenet-Rockland wedding celebration and it lit a fire under our seats to make 2017 an incredible year. There was so much in this day: so much emotion, so much energy, so much crying, so much dancing, so much wine… :)  As our time drew to a close, I leaned over to Kristin and said, “I kinda want to stick around because I feel like someone’s going to get naked.” Two minutes later, one of her parents’ friends was caught unbuckling his pants. I kid you not – that’s just the way this day went.man stands with pants undone looking surprised

We knew as soon as we did their engagement session that Mat & Stéph were really something. What we couldn’t have realised then is that their whole gang is something special.

The guys were full of banter when we joined them at the River Rock Inn, and we lightheartedly worked our way through their prep time and left with them each looking pretty snazzy. The girls were convening at Stéph’s parents’ home, where the ceremony would be held, and they calmly helped Stéph transform into the perfect bride. The tears finally started as she gave corsages to her mom and godmother, neither of whom quite managed to keep it together (thankfully ;) ). Just as the ceremony was about to start, I popped into the house to have a quick word with Stéph and her Dad, only to find them in tears, wrapped in each other’s arms. That told me everything I needed to know about what was to come.

Mat and Stéph had an intimate ceremony – only ten guests were in attendance – that was the perfect blend of ceremonial detail and casual mood, perfectly encapsulated by laughter before Stéph and her dad had even made it out of the house (doorways are tricky things when you’re trying to go through them together) and Stéph’s brother, Jason, throwing grass as confetti once it was over. :) We made our way to Rockland for the evening celebrations, where the energy level steadily increased as the evening went on. From unexpected tears during the best man’s speech and Stéph’s mom supervising the “perfect” fill of her wine glass, to a traditional French Canadian dance with socks that lit up and tequila drunk straight from the bottle, Kristin and I walked away from this wedding knowing we’d shared an exceptional experience.

Here’s a peek into some of the highlights from an unforgettable day:
