Eight Months Sessions – Cornwall Children’s Photographer

I’ve had a number of clients who have been unsure whether they should plan a session at the 8-month stage or not. My answer is always the same: DO IT. The key is to wait until they’re sitting independently; for some babies, that’s 6 months, for others, it’s more like 10. Whatever works for the babe, works for me – I hedge my bets and say 8 months so that parents have an idea of when to expect to see me again.

Honestly, this particular session is one of my very favourites to run. This is partly because there’s very little about the baby that I need to worry about – they can’t crawl yet and they are hopefully stable enough not to tip over – but mostly because babies who can sit by themselves are some of the proudest little creatures on this planet. They’ve spent months stranded on their backs like beetles, then more months trying to master rolling over figuring out how to get their forehead off the floor, and now they’ve got the hang of balancing themselves on their two little bum cheeks. That last part is the bit that they’re thrilled to show off.

The other great reason that this session is my favourite: the smiles. THE SMILES! With baby pride comes glee. Not adult, kinda-moderated glee, but let-loose-and-grin-like -your-mouth-starts-at-your-ears kinda smiles.

And so, on that note, here are a few highlights from Winter/Spring 2015 (think of it like a fashion show, except it’s not clothes we’re showing off here – we’ve got adorable babies instead):

First up is Aaliyah. This one-toothed wonder is a VERY happy baby, and her parents knew this. What they didn’t know was just how excited this little munchkin was going to be about working with me this time around. Her smile was so big it almost took on a life of its own at times. The giggles, the curls, that GORGEOUS brown skin, that lone little tooth poking through… Honestly, I was in heaven. The laughs coming out of the studio that day were unreal because she just kept us in stitches. Oh, and the drool! I’ve added in a bit of an outtake because, even though this little girl was all smiles, she must’ve had some crazy teeth coming in because she was creating puddles everywhere she went. Props to her for not letting it faze her – nothing was stopping her that day! Nat And Adrian, thanks for making the drive to come visit. It’s always a pleasure to see you guys and when you have this little one in tow, it’s even more laughs than usual. Looking forward to marking one year very shortly! Next up in the “smiles like a boss” category is Fitz. Like Aaliyah, Fitz’s first session was an at-home session, but his was more documentary in nature. Trev and Leslie opted for a studio session this time around and it was the perfect choice. This little man was insane amounts of fun. I’d been seeing photos posted on Facebook and had looked forward to this session for months, and Fitz turned out to be everything I’d seen and then some – BIG blue eyes, gigantic grin, expressive face and the gentlest little soul you can imagine. As a family, these guys are killer, so it shouldn’t have been a surprise to see Fitz turn out to be such a gem, but what an absolute treat to have him in the studio for a session! I’m Ang – a Cornwall children’s photographer with a passion for capturing light and photographing natural moments in life as they happen. My goal is to capture memories that you will cherish once your little ones are not so little anymore. I love meeting new families in their natural environment and getting in amongst the bedlam so that I can document the perfectly imperfect realities of daily life. Please explore more of www.momentusstudio.com to see more examples of Cornwall, Ontario family photography.
