I could’ve spent the day skipping from one experience to another, I was having such a great day. Beautiful clear skies in the Nelson region. Morning on the beach, lunch on the beach. Explored the mussel beds and oysters, completely obsessed in a four-year-old-having-a-new-experience sort of way (because I was! Never saw mussel beds until this trip and these ones had some big enough to eat). Headed to Toad Hall in Motueka for an awesome tandoori lamb pie (not quite as life-changing as Miles’s, but close) and excellent coffee, wound our way back to camp through countless lemon, pear and apple orchards, stopping at Seifried for delightfully surprising wine, and at the fishmonger for some mussels and tarakihi for dinner to go with our newly-acquired bottle of pinot gris. A cider on the lawn with a fellow traveller, then time to wine and dine. Not sure days get much better than this one.
Total sunburns: 3.25 (and I even used sunscreen!!)
Grateful for: grapes and seashore
