Nothing makes my family photographer heart happier than getting to join my clients for a Cornwall half day family session. These documentary sessions are absolutely where my heart lies because they give me up to five hours to hang out with my families, and I get such a kick out of getting to know you during this time. We have more time to chat, explore, go places, and laugh together. I learn about your kids’ quirks and get to spend time really watching for those behaviours; I get to see so many smiles and moments of tenderness; I get to show parents how many little acts of giving they make for their kids.
Christina and Joshua invited me into their home to spend an entire, gloriously sunny, March afternoon with them. It was starting to feel like spring, the snow was mostly gone and their daughter, Audrey, was at the stage where she’s in exploration mode 100% of the time (cue the finger-holding and walking!).
Audrey was on the go. She wants to see everything, touch everything, pull it off the shelf, knock it over and crawl over it. It’s kind of hilarious. As big supporters of the OSPCA, it’s unsurprising that they have a cat and also an adorable, painfully shy hound who played peekaboo with me anytime I was within line of sight. I could tell she wanted to hang, but her anxiety meant that it took some time before she was willing to come close and submit to any contact. My crowning glory was that she let me give her quite a few ear scratches – in Paisley’s world, we’re practically blood relatives now. ;)
This session gave me so much time to play. Christina and Joshua’s home gets marvelous (and HOT) afternoon sun streaming through the windows. There was plenty of movement to give me chances to play with capturing the emotion within those actions. Waffles and cheese for dinner (uhhhh….hello… Audrey and I are soulmates) gave me plenty of expression and interaction to laugh my way through. I watched Audrey fancy-walk (look out for those tip-toes!) and laughed when she peed on the floor while waiting for her bath. Joshua’s pre-bedtime cuddles and yawns revealed just how much they do for their little one and Christina’s time with Audrey while she counter danced showed me the unbridled joy that Audrey adds to their home.
Audrey, you are absolutely the delight of your parents’ lives. What a gift to be able to capture that for you.
I’m Ang – a Cornwall, Ontario documentary family photographer with a passion for capturing light and photographing natural moments in life as they happen. My goal is to capture memories that you will cherish once your children are too grown up to curl into your lap for cuddles and the house seems oddly quiet at night. I love meeting new families in their natural environment and getting in amongst the bedlam so that I can document the perfectly imperfect realities of daily life. Think you’ve got the perfect idea for your own Cornwall half day family session?
