What a day! Cassie and Mitch included plenty of family in their celebrations – siblings in the wedding party, a brother as MC, a sister playing ceremony music, nieces and nephews as ring bearers and flower girls.
I could tell that family is so important to these two and that hit the mark with Kris. She shot this whole wedding straight from the heart and her connection with each moment showed, as she shot through the little moments and captured some of my favourite photos of hers to date. She’s really developed a knack for finding the out-of-place humour in kids’ behaviour during a wedding day, and I had a good laugh many times while working through this gallery.
Cassie and Mitch planned their outdoor ceremony at NAV on a day when there happened to be little micro weather systems blowing through on the radar, so the actual location of the ceremony was in question right up until about 10 minutes before Cassie walked down the aisle. We knew it would be really tight and we’d probably get wet, but they decided they were alright risking it. It turned out perfect. Here’s the thing about rain: it brings people together. They huddle together under umbrellas. They laugh as they shelter under scarves or jackets. Not once did it seem like this day was even remotely close to being spoiled by 10 minutes of showers. By the time they were exiting the aisle, Cassie and Mitch’s weather forecast was back on track and they had sunshine for their cocktail hour with their guests.
My favourite surprise when going through her photos was the discovery that Cassie played the fiddle at her own wedding reception. I knew that the McDonells are a musical family, but I wasn’t expecting the bride to take the stage!
I’ve included a mini selection of highlights from this beautiful day, but if you want to see the full highlight reel for this gorgeous NAV wedding, check out the video below.
