Cornwall Maternity Photography

I have been working with some really awesome clients this year and these two sessions highlight just that. I’ve been so fortunate to meet couples who, despite any awkwardness that they may feel at the time, are able to connect with one another and look relaxed in front of the camera.

Ashley and Greg are patiently awaiting the arrival of baby number four. They have three gorgeous little girls whom they absolutely adore, and this session was intended to be not just a way of capturing Ashley during her fourth pregnancy, but be a way of highlighting the magic that is their relationship (and trust me – it’s awesome) and the beauty behind creating and carrying a child. No pressure, then! Fortunately, Greg wasn’t just “along for the ride” on this one. Lots of guys show up for their sessions because their wife/fiancé/partner wanted to get photos done – and that’s okay! But there’s a big difference between a hesitant participant and one who is willing from the get-go. And Greg was definitely willing.

These two put up with swarming mosquitoes, non-existent changing rooms and oddball requests, and not only managed to make it look completely natural, but also made it look incredibly romantic. Ashley carries babies so well it’s almost ridiculous. I’m really not sure how someone carrying her fourth child can look THIS good and be so incredibly relaxed.

It was a real treat to photograph these two. They needed very little coaxing to encourage connection; I very much got to play the role of bystander for this one and just watch them be with one another. Such a special session and so very glad that I was chosen to be there for these two during this stage and during the next. Ashley is set to deliver sometime next month, and I’m already so excited about being given the privilege of documenting their process of bringing their baby into the world.

Ashley and Greg, here are some of my favourites from your session:

Later in July, I got to meet Chantal and Nathan. There was so much laughter during this session, that it’s the first thing that comes to mind. That, and we also got the most incredibly explosive golden light right at the end of the session. It felt like hitting the jackpot. I finished this session with an ear-to-ear grin and almost completely blind from staring into the sun. What a great evening out!

Chantal is the type of pregnant every woman probably wishes they could be: carrying so compactly that she looks like she’s smuggling a basketball out of the gym rather than creating a little human. She has retained this natural grace and looks so comfortable (it was hot – I’m sure she wasn’t comfortable, but she’s doing an awesome job of faking it if that’s the case) that it would be easy to just sit and watch her – if it weren’t for the fact that that would be exceptionally creepy. :) Like 95% of the guys I work with, Nathan wasn’t too sure what to do with himself when we first started, but he quickly caught on to the fact that I really just wanted him to be there with and for Chantal and then it all made sense to him. I loved that these two trusted me right from the start and were so willing to try anything I suggested, whether it worked or not (I sent them a few curveballs).

The sense of humour that these two brought to the session meant that I wasn’t afraid to do a little risk-taking. They’re both a little goofy with their humour and very quick to laugh, so trying something that might end up not working would be something to laugh about, not something that made them feel insecure. Their easy smiles and friendly nature gave me the impression that we could easily share some drinks (mocktails, Chantal?) if we weren’t already there for a specific purpose – it was like working with friends that I hadn’t seen in awhile.

I’m really looking forward to meeting their little one in a few weeks and documenting their new family life in their home. In the meantime, thank you, Nathan and Chantal, for making your session so memorable. Here are some of my favourite images from our time together:

For the record, this is what happens when you leave the words “excited about” out of the sentence, “Look like you’re excited about having a baby.” :)

I’m Ang – a Cornwall, Ontario-based photographer with a passion for capturing light and photographing natural moments in life. My goal is to capture and print images that you will cherish once your children are too grown up to curl into your lap for cuddles and the house seems oddly quiet at night. I love working with clients in unique natural locations and getting in amongst the bedlam of your real life so that I can document the perfectly imperfect realities of family living. Please explore more of www.momentusstudio.com to see more examples of Cornwall maternity photography.
