double exposure of pine forest and engaged couple in snowy winter engagement sessionYou may remember these two lovely faces from a wedding post last summer. We joined them for their beautiful outdoor Strathmere wedding the day after I blew myself up. :P Their engagement session has long been a favourite of mine, but I only recently discovered that it never appeared here, so it’s time to share.

Anne & Zach’s winter engagement session marked a turning point last year. While I genuinely enjoy the snow, I hadn’t often gotten to be outside shooting in it, and this session seemed to mark a change of tides – we now regularly get to shoot outdoors throughout the winter and LOVE it! Working in the snow requires a slightly different skill set – everything is brighter, so you need to compensate for that; there’s always the chance that you’re adding too much snow into your frame; and you have to be willing to get down into the snow in the same way that you’re willing to get down in the grass. :P So, armed with snowpants, off I went into the pines with these two.

Anne is wry. She sees the world through lenses tinted with just the right amount of sarcasm. She’s got a soulful laugh that rewards anyone who brings humour to her life and, along with having an impressive obsession with nail art, she can rock red lipstick like nobody’s business. Zach is quieter, has a softer laugh, and has a huge heart, particularly when it comes to Anne. Finding ways to show how much they care for each other wasn’t hard, now was finding a way to make them looking stunning in what has rapidly become one of my favourite locations. They shyly accompanied us on an adventure through their session and we watched their eyes light up each time we told them how awesome they were. If it weren’t for the snow, we would’ve been cartwheeling through the field with glee over how much fun we had with these guys. One of the most rewarding parts of this job is having a couple show up feeling awkward and uncertain like Anne and Zach did, and then having the pleasure of sending them a gallery that shows just how freaking cool they are.

Here’s a peek into their beautiful winter engagement session:
