I headed into Aly & Sean’s wintry Glengarry engagement session with equal amounts of excitement and trepidation. At this point, Sean was one of the most photo-averse people I knew (I’m proud to say he no longer holds that title because he’s gotten so much more comfortable), and I really wanted to make this session as painless as possible for him. Since he’s Kristin’s brother, I also wanted to produce the best work I could for her family.

We started off very easy: I just needed them to go for a walk with Lenny, their pup, so that we could get to our spot in the woods. As they strolled up and down the trail, I watched Sean loosen up bit by bit as I cracked jokes, sprawled in the snow, and poked my head out between trees.

The great thing about engagement sessions is that you’ve always got someone else to play off of, and Aly is great at getting Sean to relax. While she laughed and chatted with him, I worked around them and enjoyed seeing the way that Sean settled into the session just by being around Aly. Aly’s enthusiasm made me extra motivated to try a few new things and, each time I asked them for something, I got more excited about what they gave me in return.

We were so fortunate to get some gorgeous sunshine during their session, so Aly and Sean got to hang out in fun pockets of light, particularly as we worked our way back to our cars. They laughed at my excitement over the light we were finding and settled into each other’s arms like there was nothing else that mattered – and that’s exactly how an engagement session should go.

Here’s a little look at some favourites from their session.

I’m Ang – a Cornwall, Ontario-based photographer with a passion for capturing light and photographing the natural chemistry between couples. I love working in a natural environment and challenging myself to capture the scene in creative ways. Engagement sessions are a chance to go adventuring and they often include a starting point or idea and then we see where the evening takes us. If a wintry Glengarry engagement session isn’t up your alley, but you’d like to see what might come from a summer engagement session, start here.
