When my Auntie Winona asked if I might be able to do some family portraits for her, I knew there was no question that we’d make it happen. You see, she’s one of my great aunts – my nana has 8 siblings – and she’s one of five that live in the neighbourhood I grew up in. I remember going to her house to learn how to knit at her very-retro kitchen table; I remember sitting in the family room at my great grandma’s house while she taught me two little tunes on great grandma’s ancient upright piano (one of which I still remember!). When you have family who give you memories – and time – you do your very best to give back.
Our session was a bit of an express one. The rain that had threatened all morning started to come down just as I was positioning the last family group, meaning that we did two poses as a big family and called it quits there. But to see this gang together, descending on the old neighbourhood having come from Kingston, Ottawa, and Nova Scotia for a weekend of golf and laughs, was awesome.
