Ugh. I’m not a morning person. I can do 7:30 or 8 and be fully functional 10 mins later, but when the alarm sounds at 3:40, it takes a little work to make me get out of bed. But we’re here, courtesy of Norman, the world’s chattiest taxi driver (and clearly a morning person), and we’re enjoying a quiet tea before heading for the gate.
Past few days have whizzed by in a blur of wineries, wine, food, clown car efforts (courtesy of bags, garbage, backpacks and wine), and my best efforts to sleep past 7. And cricket – maybe less ‘blur’ and more ‘blah’ on that one. Can safely say I’m still not a fan. Best part of our time with Luce and Danno (besides time with Luce and Danno, of course): lunch at Tuck’s Ridge winery. Amazing! Roast quail with grilled chorizo and a sharing platter good enough to make me enjoy pâté. :) Biggest regret: not taking a photo with the awesome employee at the cellar door who encouraged us to forget how the wine we tried 5 minutes earlier tasted so that we could try it again. Love it when people have a great time doing their jobs and don’t take it all too seriously!
Auckland, here we come! Looking forward to seeing what our campervan holds in store for us and SUPER stoked that a trip more than 10 years in the dreaming is about to start. Feeling more awake at the thought of it.
Total sunburns: 1.25
Grateful for: Mersey cheddar, old friends who treat you like royalty, expanding baby bumps (purely because it’s fascinating to see how quickly they change), Australian Strongbow (yep. still.)
