Note: Because of some outdated coding that’s causing me all kinds of website grief, I’m testing out a dual-platform format for my travel posts. Blog posts will be here on my site, while photos will be on my Instagram account.

We’re ringing in 2026 by taking off on a sabbatical. Want to know where we’re going to be this year?

Here’s the breakdown of Plan A (if you know anything about how we travel, you know we’ll finish somewhere around Plan V) :

  • Jan 2-28: Sri Lanka – for some of the world’s best food, the culture of its ancient capitals, and the lure of leopards (and cricket!)
  • Jan 28-March 12: India – for its diverse regional cuisine, wide variety of landscapes, the intensity of Varanasi, the majesty of Agra and Rajasthan, and the temptation of tiger sightings
  • March 12-March 29: Pakistan – for remarkable hiking and quiet tourist routes
  • March 29-April 14: Nepal – for the Manaslu Circuit, a 14-day high altitude trek
  • April 14-May 5: Morocco – for more Marrakesh street photography, Essaouira’s coastal views and Chefchaouen’s radiant blues, and the call of the Atlas Mountains
  • May 5-26: Turkey – for a long-awaited exploration of Istanbul, the landscape of Cappadocia and maybe some beach time in Antalya
  • May 26-July 12: Japan – for food. Need I really say more?! We’ll be seeking out quiet(er) coastal towns and handcrafted noodles, and learning all we can about sake.
  • July 13-27: Cornwall!
  • July 27-late Aug: UK
  • Aug-Sept: Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia for all the hiking we can manage
  • Sept-October: Following the Dalmatian Coast from Croatia down through Montenegro and Albania before heading into North Macedonia. Will we tick Kosovo off the list? Who knows!
  • Early Nov: Patagonia? We’ll see!

Is it ambitious? You bet.

Have we done our research? Mostly. Kind of. Maybe.

Are we ready? Not even close.

Follow along to see how this wild ride plays out!
