Kasie, your mom and dad invited me over to do a documentary maternity session for your family just three short weeks before you’re due to become a big sister. Our time together gave me a chance to reflect on what I know about you three.
It has been over a year since I last saw you, so I got to revel in how daring and rambunctious you are as you grow bigger. You’re full of a joy for living that only comes from being surrounded by love and encouragement and, even though it leads you astray sometimes, that joyfulness is 100% contagious.
The last time I was at your house, I noticed how comfortable your dad is with babies – he was perfectly at ease holding you right from the beginning. His easiness with his role in your life hasn’t change – I’ve learned that he’s the one who will be there to help you learn how to take big, exhilarating risks as safely as he can. He’s interested in helping you experience the excitement that the world has to offer you – which is lucky, because you seem hellbent on finding ALL of the excitement, sometimes all at once. :P
From the time you were born, your mom has treasured you. She’s always going to be the one you run to when you need reassuring, soothing, or just a quiet hug because as much as she gives you solace, having you in her arms is exactly what makes her feel that all is right in the world. She’s the very definition of comfort and you seem to fit so naturally into the curve of her, even when she’s busy growing a new baby for your family.
Your parents have patience and humour on their side. You have recklessness and adventure on yours. I don’t doubt that you’re each going to teach this new baby a thing or two about how to become a kind and compassionate person – but I suspect you’re also going to teach her how to give your parents a heart attack or two along the way. ;)
Here’s a look into what I saw during our time together:
I’m Ang – a Cornwall-based photographer who offers Cornwall documentary family photos that highlight my passion for capturing light and photographing natural moments in life as they happen. My goal is to capture memories that you will cherish once your children are too grown up to curl into your lap for cuddles and the house seems oddly quiet at night. I love meeting new families in their natural environment and getting in amongst the bedlam so that I can document the perfectly imperfect realities of daily life.
