Joining Pat and Veronica for their Long Sault Christmas photos in their home was an absolute no-brainer. I jump at the chance to hang out with these guys because they make it so easy to find the joy in their lives.
Veronica and Pat were an unexpected little gift from my 2019 wedding season. Their easy laughter, gentle hearts, and seemingly boundless thoughtfulness quickly found them a special place in my heart. Then, just to make a good thing better, they welcomed Freyja into the world midway through this year.
As true lovers of Christmas, they asked if I’d join them one afternoon while they decorated the tree. We didn’t have our own tree up, so I wasn’t feeling the spirit of the season just yet, but walking into their house made it feel like Christmas was just around the corner and it was time to do some celebrating. The tunes were playing, Pat took pleasure in carefully placing many of his childhood ornaments on the tree, and we doubled over laughing at Freyja catching sight of herself in the shiny ornaments.
Freyja is such a joy! She’s quick to smile and very attentive; she’s also inquisitve and profoundly focused (on my camera, in many cases – much to my amusement) for someone her age. She brings out all of the best aspects of her Mom and Dad: silliness, even more laughter, some Dad humour, and a quiet desire to soak up the time together. I do far more talking than I should when I’m with Pat and Veronica because it feels like I’m hanging out with friends instead of working, but it was so much fun to chat about Freyja’s growth since I’d last seen them and watch their faces as they told me about each new Freyja detail that gave them reason to marvel.
Christmas traditions and celebrations are so unique to each family, which is what makes them so much fun to document. Spending a bit of time with the Burrows family to make their home feel a little more festive meant that I left the house with a skip in my step and a smile on my face. I *love* that Freyja will have these photos to look back on one day and see how excited her parents were to celebrate her first Christmas. Here’s a look at how we spent our time together:
