How do I explain to you what a wild ride you’re in for?
In years to come, your newborn photos from the night you came home from the hospital and an easy afternoon two short weeks into your new life will only hint at the way that your sister has taken to her unofficial job as guardian. She watches over you constantly, dreaming up things that you must have right this minute and finding any reason under the sun to touch you. It’s something of a miracle that she hasn’t started collecting you from your crib yet. ;) She’s going to give you a run for your money every step of the way, but she’s also liable to be your biggest fan and greatest supporter.
I can see the way that your dad quietly-but-eagerly awaits any excuse to hold you. I can see the way he’s casually confident when handling you, but also feels the need to gently hold you right up close to his face. He’s a lighthearted guy, that Dad of yours, but I can see the impact you’ve had on him already.
Your mom slid so naturally back into her role as the mother of a newborn. The magic of this is that she’s done it with ease and confidence, and she’s radiant because of it. I’ve known her for quite awhile, and I’ve never seen your Mom look the way she does right now. Peaceful. Comfortable.
You’re going to come to realise that you’ve been gifted above-average parents. More often than not, they’re pragmatic and logical, on top of being playful and creative, which means you’re liable to grow up with the ability to simultaneously think clearly and be silly. ;) They’ll likely speak to you as if you’re 10, not 2, and will commit to helping you understand whatever it is that piques your curiosity. A child like you with parents like them is bound to do something incredible in this world, and I can’t wait to see what it is.
You, little rainbow, are so loved.
