You have joined a beautifully gentle family with the craziest big sister, Gibson. She’s definitely going to help you get into trouble. She’ll teach you how to pilfer veggie snacks from the garden. She’ll show you that apples doubles as both a snack and home decor – and that you should never bite the same spot twice. You’ll learn that blankets and pillows are for floor nests and curtains are definitely made for hiding behind. She’ll reveal that fingers and toes are things of wonder, Gibson, and babies are a joy to behold.
Your dad is the happiest and most laidback I’ve ever seen him (that’s saying a lot – he’s a pretty laidback dude), even though life is more chaotic than ever. He has found this comfortable and easy way with you that only comes from knowing that he’s exactly where he’s meant to be.
Your mom has given me the most wonderful reminder that Moms are this special breed of human. Breastfeeding your first baby is often really tricky. It can be uncomfortable for lots of Moms, and sometimes there’s a lot of anxiety about it. When your mom breastfeeds you, she shows this innate understanding of what she needs to do and she makes it look so easy, Gibson, to the point where she multitasks without even realising it.
Your parents work so hard to keep your household afloat, and they do it with laughter. That tells me great things are in your future, my friend. They delight in you in ways that you’ll probably never truly realise because it’s hard to understand the joy you bring to another’s life when you’re in the thick of it. Know that you have three people around you who will go to the ends of the earth for you without a second thought.
