Getting together with Nick, Steph and the kids – and their newest addition, the adorable Rollie – for some casual Cornwall family portraits really just means I’m going to spend some time laughing with a camera in tow.

A lunchtime session with these guys on a summer Saturday is definitely a great way to spend my time. They’re so easy to hang out with that it barely feels like work, and I know that they’re happy to let me try anything that comes to mind, so that’s exactly what I spent 90 mins doing during this session.

Violet loves Ernie and Ernie loves tree climbing, so Ernie got to take the lead and Violet joined in. He’s kind of shockingly good at it (read that as “terrifyingly brave”), so it was a lot of fun to have a chance to really think about perspective and how to show how high he was.

One of the joys of photographing this family is that they make things happen for one another – they’re willing to go along with an idea because it matters to someone they love. That’s not always a common theme, particularly when kids are still learning empathy, but it was so lovely to see throughout my time with them and was a quiet reminder of how much compromise matters every day.

Here’s a look into our time at the park:

I’m Ang. I’m a family photographer offering coverage like these casual Cornwall family portraits, as well as family photography in Brockville, Ottawa, and SD&G.
