You’ve spent a whole year making your parents the happiest people on the planet. You’re full of personality (and cake) and love to make people smile (particularly while eating cake). You’ve got a love for exploring (if there’s cake) and testing boundaries (like how much cake you can eat in one sitting).
Your family was so excited to join you for pizza and cake that some of them even flew across the country to be here with you! It’s not often I get to see all four grandparents spending time with a little one, and that made your party particularly memorable. I loved watching you when you sat on the table with your grandmas while they tickled you and when you shared your cake with your grandpas.
Your bedtime routine on this particular night when I joined you for your first birthday session was a special one. Not only did you get to say goodnight to almost every member of your family all in one place (minus your uncle, who couldn’t make it to Cornwall), but your mom got to steal some quiet time with you. During that time, she celebrated the boy you’re becoming and spent quiet moments reflecting on everything you’ve given her as a baby. You were her last baby, and you helped her settle into being a mom in a way that your brother just couldn’t because everything was so new. Watching her live through all of those emotions while you silently drank your bottle, looked her straight in the eyes, and played with her fingers was so special. It was as if you knew.
So happy birthday, little man. I hope one day you realise the joy you bring to this world of ours.
