Summer is coming (I promise!) and with it comes camping season.
With camping season comes free-range childhood. Bonfires. Al fresco dining. Swimming. Tired kids who run until they drop. Playgrounds. Marshmallows. The kind of all-consuming creative play that comes when there’s no cell service or wifi. Family time of the sort that kids still talk about when they’re 45.
The Murphys invited me to head to Meacham Lake with them, so I got to spend 8 hours documenting what that camping trip looked like for their family.
What did I get to see? The struggles on the playground (uhhh…how incredibly awkward can a single child make it to get up a pole?). The splashes in the lake. The bonus alone time with Mom and Dad that comes when you have a younger sister who still has to nap. The snacks, kayaking, the bonfire, the family mealtime, the exploration, the fatigue, the cuddles…. all.of.it.
Melissa and Ian fed me smoked meat and shared their wine, made me laugh, and laughed at me while I scrambled all over the playground. Most importantly, though, they shared their family stories and let their kids be kids with me. They loved their kids the best ways they know how.
I’ve been dying to show you what it means to bring me camping and what that looks like, so here’s my little visual love letter to camping and the Murphy gang.
So…. let’s go camping, shall we?
