When Sarah asked me if I’d be able to come to their house on a Saturday for a birthday party, there was no doubt that my answer would be “yes.” I’ve been helping Chris and Sarah document their family’s moments since 2014 and I wasn’t about to stop now!
Milo and Theo happen to be birthday twins – except these two brothers’ birthdays are exactly two years apart. Two boys + one birthday = giant bouncy castle. What more could I ask for on a Saturday morning?!
Milo and Theo enjoyed a little bit of time in the bouncy castle before the mob of beautiful Benton cousins started arriving. Milo couldn’t get enough of sliding and crashing into the wall, despite the slightly bewildered look on his face the first few times. Theo, on the other hand, loved sitting on the bouncy surface but was significantly less enthused when his cousins helped him go down the slide.
It turns out, though, there was one more thing that would make this day perfect. His name is Ted.
Ted is Sarah’s Dad. His Norwegian heritage means that he wanted to be called “Bestefar” (“grandfather”), but somewhere along the way, that became “Bestie.” There was no way of knowing just how appropriate that nickname would become, which is awfully adorable. Equally adorable is the way that Theo’s eyes just light up whenever he looks at Ted, who is very clearly his bestie. Ted will always be young at heart and he very obviously delights in spending time with these two little boys, but what’s more obvious is how much Theo delights in his time with Ted. The bond Ted and Theo share reminds me a great deal of my dad with my nephews, which made the connection feel very personal.
Theo, it was so much fun helping you celebrate your first birthday and singing to you as you got your first birthday cake! I hope that each year, as you share your birthday with Milo, you continue to adore your brother the way that I saw that morning and that your personality continues to shine so brightly. Milo, I can see the way that you’ve already started looking out for your brother. You’re growing into such a thoughtful and adventurous little man and that’s SO exciting to see!
Happy 1st and 3rd birthday to two beautiful little souls. You both bring so much joy and laughter to your parents’ lives! <3
