The Loneys – Intimate Cornwall Wedding

It’s been 30 whole days since Josh and Alex’s intimate Cornwall wedding, so what better day to publish their blog post than their one-month anniversary?!

This whole day was a dream. The weather cooperated (because, let’s be honest: the weather on any given year on April 2 could go in ANY direction); these two were amazing; and the vendor team pulled out all the stops.

There are a few things that need to be said about Josh and Alex because not everyone reading this will know them. You should. They’re probably your kind of people. I’m feeling lucky that they came into my life because it’s certainly been fun having them around. Josh is an incredibly laid-back guy, but he was interested and involved in the process and he shows genuine excitement with so much ease. It was so much fun to see his face light up repeatedly throughout the day! Alex is this funky, chilled-out-but-energetic, alternative bride who expresses gratitude openly and radiates joy. I actually lost count of how many times these two thanked us for making this day happen for them, and to me, that’s class. There was no entitlement with these two – they won an amazing prize and wanted to work with their vendors so that their team got to show off their creativity. In their eyes, the day wasn’t just about them, and that was an unexpected perspective that came as a fun surprise.

The day had a heavy focus on portraits because we had plenty of time, plenty of light, and an incredible connection between these two. My main focus for most weddings is documentary coverage, but I could’ve honestly whisked these two away and photographed portraits with them for the full five hours. SO.MUCH.FUN. The unusual part is that there was an unexpected theme to their session: all portraits took place in or on the very edge of local parking lots. Alex’s portraits were done in the Best Western parking lot; we did their first look in gorgeous light shining down on a Second St parking lot; their evening portraits were all done in the main parking lot behind Table 21 and in the Cornwall Square parking garage. Who knew you could get something so memorable when surrounded by dirty snowbanks and parked cars? ;)

The ceremony was personal to the pair. They read their own vows and Manon (one of my very favourite officiants) incorporated Josh and Alex’s daughter, Ava, into a portion of the ceremony (cue the tears). After the ceremony, Al & Josh were able to mingle with their guests, dine on some delicious hors d’hoeuvres, spend a few treasured moments with grandparents and then they had an adorable first dance right as we returned from their evening portraits.

Our time together was short, but what an incredible few hours it was for Kristin and I. When I thought up this idea, I wasn’t sure that I’d be able to get enough vendors on board to make it happen. I wasn’t sure if I’d end up with the “right” couple. I wasn’t sure how it would all play out if I did manage to get the whole thing to gain enough momentum to move forward. In hindsight, I had nothing to worry about. These vendors, this couple, the weather, this day – it was all perfection.

Check out the video below for a full highlight reel of the most special shots from Josh & Al’s big day. Love you two!

This whole day would never have been possible without the help of some spectacular local business owners. Martin at M.P. Entertainment did a wonderful job welcoming everyone and keeping feet moving well through the night. Allison from Poppin Makeup & More made Alex look absolutely flawless and Danielle from Dandoo managed to control all of Alex’s hair into a sophisticated style that suited her perfectly. The cake and cupcakes provided by Jen at Faith, Trust & Shimmer Dust looked DIVINE (and apparently tasted so good that Al & Josh didn’t manage to wait a whole year to eat their anniversary cake!) and were highlighted beautifully with florals from Rachelle at Blooms, who also did a stunning job with Al’s bouquet and all of the accent bouquets and boutonnieres. The team at Table 21: Steakhouse & Oyster Bar gave their full attention to making this day so special and I’m so grateful to Dominique and Ahmad for agreeing to host the event. A wedding isn’t a wedding without a location for it to be held, and Table 21 was perfection! Sophie from Sage Designs provided seamless, beautiful accent decor to complement both the couple’s tastes and the restaurant’s style.
