Chris & Phee – Chic New Forest Wedding
Oh, this day…. I don’t even know where to start. A few weeks back, I shared this highlight video from Chris & Phee’s memorable day. If you’re a video lover, hit the link:
This wedding was one of the greatest instances of serendipity I’ll likely have in my life. A wedding timed just right to coincide with our Christmas trip to the UK. A simple question led to me having an amazing second shooter for the day. A gorgeous forecast meant no one got too cold. Faith in my skills meant that we got explore one of the most gorgeous settings I’ve ever been able to photograph. The simple and symbolic presence of a robin at the reception brought people to tears.
Chris and Phee’s chic New Forest wedding took place at Highcliffe Castle and Rhinefield House. Both are gorgeous locations in their own right and I’d love an excuse to go back to both spots.
Keith Bridle and I joined Chris and his guys at the Christchurch Harbour Hotel & Spa for prep in the most perfectly-located room. With morning light streaming through the windows, we had a bit of a field day capturing their preparations for the day ahead. Phee’s room was bursting with activity when we arrived. Hair and makeup finished, everyone left…. and the silence that filled the space made for a peaceful break in an otherwise hectic day. Her mother quietly helped her into her bespoke bridal gown before her family and bridesmaids came to join her.
After a beautiful ceremony at Highcliffe, we headed off to the Ornamental Drive to do some exploring together. We had the softest diffused light filtering down through the pines in a surprisingly empty forest. Keith and I had a wicked time guiding Chris and Phee through the trails while we stopped for photos. Sometimes, at spots we’d picked out; sometimes, at spots that caught our eye along the way. Their portrait session really felt like an exploration of the area, rather than a checklist.
During the reception, we really saw the “character” come out in this party. There had been celebrations and life throughout the day, but things really kicked off during dinner. Each table had toys to play with, which seemed to entertain even the most senior of guests. (The costumes for the DIY photo booth also caught Keith’s attention, as you’ll see. ;) ) Being that the wedding took place the week before Christmas, there were festive touches throughout the day – carols, mulled wine, minced pies, an absolutely enormous Christmas tree. The carol singing efforts after dinner had me doubled over in stitches as two sides of the room tried – with futility – to get through the songs on the same rhythm. The dance floor opened with a lively first dance from Chris and Phee, and then the band kicked in and things stayed rocking into the wee hours.
There were plenty of high-fives and so much laughter on this day – when I think about about it, that’s the sound that fills my ears (well, that, and discordant singing….). Chris and Phee, my heartfelt thanks for having me there to capture such a wonderfully memorable day. Huge thanks to Keith for joining me on that day. It wouldn’t have been the same without you, my friend!
Here are some of my favourites that tell Chris and Phee’s story:
I’m Ang. I’m a Cornwall, Ontario-based photographer offering wedding and documentary family coverage locally and worldwide. Visual storytelling is what I do best. I’m an avid traveler and my passport is always up-to-date. I have dual citizenship with the UK and I’m ALWAYS ready for an adventure. Laughter is important in my life and in my work. I love working with couples who are emotionally present on their wedding day and whose goal is to spend time laughing with loved ones.
