Sasha & Josée’s Chic Cornwall Wedding
I have procrastinated about writing this post for so long because I don’t even know how to put this day into words. I’ve worked with some really, truly wonderful people while doing my job. But these two…. I’m not sure that human beings get any more real or sincere than these girls. From the minute they showed up at the door for our initial consultation session, I knew that we were going to have a unforgettable time together. I think we all held up our ends of the bargain because this story has given me a wedding crush like no other.
Sash and Jo are two exuberant, fun-loving, bundles of energy that sweep you up and carry you along on this whirlwind ride and then spit you out at the other end, knowing something amazing just happened but wondering what the hell it was at the same time. They have honest laughter and give seriously great hugs – as you’ll see, since their wedding day was overflowing with both.
Sasha and I met at the cenotaph with her girls and her mom for some portraits and cannon riding (always a good sign) before Kristin and I headed off to Josée’s parents’ place on Hamilton’s Island, where we spent some time enjoying the river backdrop during Josée’s portraits. Their first look – a trend that’s been super-popular this year! – was right on the dock and led the girls into some natural, candid portraits and some wine (as any good portrait session should, in my opinion).
Their wedding party was filled with girls who’ve been their besties for as long as they can remember, and it was clear just how much these two mean to the rest of the girls. There was no trouble getting smiles from anyone while they enjoyed one another’s company and celebrated the two soon-to-be-wives. I loved that the bridesmaids got to walk down the aisle in pairs, clutching one another’s hands. It was such a small gesture that gave me a little glimpse into their childhood selves. This is a gaggle of girls who went everywhere together and loved one another fiercely.
There were some really touching details that stood out for me on this day. Luc, Josée’s Dad, greeted Sasha with a huge huge and lots of laughter. It felt like I was watching him greet a daughter who’d been missing for years. There were seven – SEVEN! – grandparents present. Instead of traditional portraits with each of them, the girls wanted to spend a few minutes visiting with them and have that captured. YES, PLEASE. Forget the guests – even the judge was crying before the girls made it all the way down the aisle. If anyone had been playing a drinking game with “I love my life!” as the catchphrase, they would’ve been smashed before the ceremony even started. Josée was the adult version of this girl allllllll day and it was amazing. You can’t help but get caught up in that kind of tsunami of enthusiasm. The food. OH. The food! The canapé menu that Dom and Ahmad put together for this event was amazing! Just to be safe, Luc made sure that Josée protected her dress with the bib (apron, maybe, since she’s now an adult?) that she’s been using since childhood.
MP Entertainment kept everyone dancing long after we left; Face It! did a wonderful job on makeup and Studio 101 gets credit for Josée’s hair; Midnight Confetti jazzed things up beautifully with their décor; Blooms is responsible for the gorgeous florals; and Dom, Ahmad and their Truffles Burger Bar staff did an absolutely amazing job of taking care of everyone. I can’t wait to shoot another wedding with this awesome team!
There were so many personal touches, fine details, and open displays of affection on this day. Sash & Jo, I’m so grateful that you chose me to document the day for you. Being there for you was a summer highlight for Kristin and I.
Here’s a highlight reel of Josée and Sasha’s big day:
