Chico & Michelle – Cornwall Countryside Maternity Session![Oliveira290516 048]()
Working with these two always gives me a case of the butterflies. They are AWESOME in front of the camera. Behind the camera, their dry humour and shy laughter keep me smiling for ages after the session. The thing that I really love about these two is that there’s so much trust. Despite them always being a little uncertain about being in front of the camera, they know I’m going to do my best to deliver something that will make them smile, and they try to have faith that it’s not going to be awkward or cheesy (we did have to joke about hands-in-the-shape-of-a-heart, just to clear the air).
Trust from clients is a wonderful thing and something I take very seriously. As soon as I know I’ve got it, it’s like a great big creative green light. My take on maternity photos is simple: if we’re doing portraits, they should be about connection, not just the changes in your figure. I do everything I can to highlight that connection. Mama should look as spectacularly feminine as possible, but my real focus is showing two people who are in love, since that’s how you ended up here in the first place. When you connect with one another, the rest takes care of itself.
We had an awesome evening for this session: a light breeze, a comfortable temperature and a great setting. So we did what the three of us do best: laughed our way through an hour of photos, especially the parts where Chico got a face full of Michelle’s hair (because it’s secretly his favourite thing EVER – or not…). I got to work on a bit of freelensing, they got to just hang out and be together. (They also got to laugh at me when I had to resort to shooting out the sun roof because it was the only way to get the angle I wanted. :) )
Now it’s time to wait for news of baby’s safe arrival!
