At Home with the Lefebvres – Candid Cornwall Family Portraits
When someone emails me because they’ve just moved into their newly-built forever home, are about to have their second child, and they want to do an at-home newborn session, then this is a family I want to meet. Like many families, these guys found studio sessions to be a bit of a trial, so they wanted to explore the idea of lifestyle family photography. They couldn’t possibly have been better suited for it. Their daughter is full of expression and curiosity; their new son is all cheeks and sleepiness.
I spent my time watching Lea’s excited responses to the world around her and catching the tiny gestures that happen when you’re caring for a two-week old child. Although her attention span is as short as you’d expect, Lea is clearly in love with her little brother; her response to holding him was absolutely priceless. I loved that this session included a bit of time alone with Dad and daughter and with Mom and son because those moments really highlighted the difference in how we spend time with children at different ages. Seeing Jessica spend a few minutes alone just talking to Vincent and touching him (knowing that it likely doesn’t happen all that often when there’s a two year old in the house), was such a beautiful little moment. The whole family was so relaxed in front of the camera that my time with them just flew by. I loved that they approached parenting two young children with such humour and grace, even when presented with a bawling two year old who was upset that Daddy wouldn’t let her hit him (see photo of Lea on Matt’s shoulders). :)
