North Wales Wedding
Back in early July, I had the good fortune of attending a rather special wedding in a rather spectacular location. Gemma and Paul have been together since their teens, having met while working shifts at a local grocery store. Almost eleven years later, they finally got their chance to say “I do” – and boy, did they!
Their wedding ceremony and reception were hosted at the Nant Gwrtheyrn Welsh language centre in northwest Wales. When I first toured the venue a number of months ago, it was a grey, windy, cold day – not the best for allowing me to imagine what it would be like in July, but enough to make it very clear that the venue really didn’t encourage a Plan B. It HAS to be sunny to have a beautiful wedding in that spot. My history with Welsh weather is so bad that it has become something of a joke – it seems that Wales hears me coming and brings out the rain in greeting. So it was generally acknowledged that Paul and Gemma were taking a bit of a gamble inviting me to their wedding, let alone hiring me as the photographer.
Luckily for us, the UK was experiencing some record-breaking weather during our time over there and Wales had plenty of sun (enough to give one of the groomsmen suspected heat stroke). The bride looked stunning, and the groom was every bit the dapper gent he needed to be in order to look good next to his bride. :) We were so spoiled for locations that I think I could shoot 10 weddings here and never use the same location twice. The centre is the former home of a mining village, meaning that there’s a very traditional north Wales backdrop – a quarry – in some of the shots. Being right on the coast, we had access to a stony beach, meadows, mountain backdrops… Spoiled! The stunning location was the perfect way to highlight a wedding between two lovely – and loving – people.
This photo collection is my most thorough one to date; if you’re looking for a start-to-finish sample of my wedding work, this is the best place to start. Although thorough, this collection doesn’t even begin to cover all of my favourites.
